Agreed they were a very good band :-( We lost a lot of good ones.

My mind sort of went to Nirvana, but obviously they had a good reason for breaking up...
I'll say Oasis. I was pretty sad when they called it quits.

Well recently I was pretty bummed about Alexisonfire but nothing made me more sad than Motley Crue back in the day, but obviously they got back together at some point. They were my favourite band through my early teens though.

I'd say R.E.M., who only recently threw in the towel. I was a fan of theirs for years - hell, I still am now - and I'm gonna miss 'em!

He had filed for divorce and had spoken openly about getting custody of their daughter.
He had just completed a rehab program a week earlier.
He was injected with a lethal dose of heroin which would've killed him instantly leaving him unable to shoot himself.
The note written was to his fans stating he was leaving the music business. This was discovered months later when love accidently let it slip in an interview that there was a 2nd letter clearly explaining the end of his career not the end of his life. She claimed she had lost the 2nd letter and forgot.
The position of the gun in his hand didnt match up forensically.
It was discovered someone else had been using his credit card.
He had recently bought a shot gun for protection which was found fully loaded upon a police search.
A male live in nanny was said to be conspiring with love and involved in the killing.
Theres never been a charge brought forward for defimation regarding the publicity and loves involvement.
There's heaps more.

Bringing me back into my stoner years...But I do remember these (moreso the bold, specifically). That is why I always want to argue about whether he died of an overdose or a shot to the head. People are always so sure he shot himself...

P.S. I'm no uber music buff, however, every "great band" I've ever heard had broken up has pretty much always gotten back together at some point down the line hoping to be $uccessful for at least another short run (unless one of their main members had died, sadly. But even then many bands do carry on the same name...)
I think some of Jeto's answers for you about Kurt(R.I.P.)'s situation are why I had heard Grohl and gang decided to rename and reform. I think I had also heard something about the rights to "Nirvana" having something to do with Love and it was better left alone??!!?!
