Ok, before you jump all over me for this not being a "global event," shut up.  It is an environmental occurrence that is affecting members of our community.  I live just north of Houston, Texas, and I can tell you, this is a pretty scary place to be at the moment.  You cannot go outside without seeing or smelling the smoke.  Over 22,000 acres have burnt, and the fire is still mostly out of control.  I just wanted to make sure that none of our board members needed our help.
