Since the website should be THE place to go for people intrested in the band it still surprises me that it doesn't show up (well) in google searches. If you search "Thirty Seconds to Mars" I get a result for this forum on page 7 but no "hit" on the actual website in the first ten pages of google search. For "30 Seconds to Mars" nothing on the first 10 pages of google search for either the website or the forum. To me that makes it tough for people who for example hear about the band on the radio or see the video clip and search for info on the band online. Wikipedia comes up first in the search...

You know I think google ranking is just a reflection of the slowness of loading pages.
On the first page we get 3 main official links (Myspace, twitter and facebook) and they all have, wikipedia included, a direct link to the webside.
Also, most of the unofficial blogs and websites dedicated to help promoting the band also link to the official one in priority.
To make it short its address is everywhere, so I guess that the website needs some improvements in making web browsing easily accessible to encourage people to spend a while on it, come back and eventually reach a better ranking wink.gif

Oh, and please turn down the volume on the main page. It bugs me alot if I'm listening to something else when I enter the website.

Really? Because at this point I think logic suggests the official website is being (un)officially buried in favor of people finding their way to places like myspace, facebook, twitter and buzznet instead.

Agree that is what it seems like (hence I said should be, not is) but it makes me wonder since so much time and effort IS put into the website (whether the layout or design etc is to everyone's liking) so it'd be weird that they would want to bury it. Agree all those other sites like twitter, facebook, buzznet, myspace show up earlier, but those sites are just fractions of what is out there about the band, the main website still collects ALL info. I mean all facebook does is post automatically the tweets sent out, nothing else really except the occasional pic. Myspace seems to be dying. Buzznet is just for pics. Then the assortment of flickr pages (maybe somebody should post an overview of all the flickr pages because I'm loosing count)... ah well who knows. I just find it a pity. It used to be the FIRST link to show up in google searches, now it doesn't show up in the first few...

What she said.

Yeah, it bugs me too. Has been that way through Google search since they changed the address  from thirtysecondstomars.com to thirtysecondstomars.thisisthehive.net. Shame.

Although I usually just navigate around it, since the autostart of that music player lags the heck out of me when working with several pages open.

Well then, *pretends to be newbie* *not hard* let's see where I actually end up if I search "thirty seconds to mars official website" (taking no chances).

Hm. Myspace, musictoday, Wikipedia, Facebook, (couple random things), abeautifullie.org, Buzznet. Some youtube videos.
Page Two: Oh, here's the Twitter, some fansites, music news... *presses on*...
....reviews, Jared Leto Pictures!!!... *uh-oh, here it comes*... the blogging sites begin... finally a link to the forum on page 5.
Some more reviews not all of which are recent, and fan sites... something called "Fuck Yeah! Tomo Milicevic" that I'm wondering if I should even... (nah, just to be safe...)

I'm up to page 11 and I found a couple echelon things, and ticketmaster... and more Jared Leto celeb-gossip type stuff.

So this is the word that's out. And I, too, am wondering if this is the way.

Because, personally, I've resorted to getting most of my updates and news, plus my fill of fan chatter from two fairly private little enclaves of fans that do not even appear in these search results -- it's fast, it's complete, and accurate, a lot of the recent concert reviews posted there have been first person reports, and I'm very happy just hunkering down in the shadows of mass fandom with my 'friends'.

I think that this is because they changed it from thirtysecondstomars.com into thirtysecondstomars.thisisthehive.net/blog and that makes alot of difference because of the change it it not accessible for everyone especially on places with a block for Social Networking and Personal Sites. But that's is my opinion.

How bout on sites such as facebook or twitter(or any other site that has it) that have status messages, we could post a quote from one of their songs, and people would ask who they are, if they're curious enough. I don't know if that will help...i'm just trying to think of stuff...

You're right about the bolded part. I used to go to 30secondstomars.com all the time while at work but since it got changed into the blog thingy it's completely blocked now. sad.gif

Tell me when the website is back to the way it was during the ABL era. I can't go on it now, it takes too long to load and confuses my eyes when it finally does.

i just wanted to bump this thread because.... the old vote/buy spam issue has resurfaced.  sad.gif my best friend (who loves 30 and goes to a lot of shows with me) unfollowed the band and jared twitter accounts yesterday (she had already unfollowed tomo during one of his twitter attacks.) and currently only follows shannon because hes 'not annoying yet'. we were discussing how its annoying when the feed is filled with "vote/buy" spam tweets and all the accounts retweeting each other. like, we came to the conclusion that is one account HAS to spam, it should be the 30 account, and jared & tomos accounts should not retweet everything the 30 account tweets. cause most people that follow jared or tomo are also following 30.

then we were talking about how jareds 'notes from the outernet' blog is the only interesting thing he has going right now (when it comes to social media stuff) and we were like "THATS the type of stuff he should tweet!" (or tweet the links to it like he does now, but it all gets lost in the spam) cause its actually interesting. its worth reading. the tweets, when i see their avatars, i scroll past all of it cause its all the same shit. its got bad again and its causing them to lose followers. maybe not enough for anyone to notice, but still, these are quality fans that have been around for a long time and support & go to shows & buy merch on their own cause they WANT to not cause its tweets a zillion times, and now because of the spam, the account(s) lost one (maybe more who knows) quality fan who now could miss out on some good info all cause of the annoying spam coming in from almost every account.

shannons twitter account is nice. he barely tweets, but when he does, its interesting, pics, whatever and not annoying. i actually like seeing him pop up in my feed cause you never know what hes gonna say/show, but like i said, i scroll right by the jared, tomo, 30, and hive accounts because its all the same. retweeting each other about voting here and buying this. yes you need to promote things, understandable. but it should be appointed to one specific account and not retweeted by everyone and their mother. one of the main complaints was how the 'personal accounts' weren't very personal. then it improved, and now its back to square one. well tomo is still pretty personal, but his tweets can just get annoying sometimes, but that's probably just me. cause some of the stuff he retweets, make me want to strangle the original tweeters.

i mean, am i nuts? is it just me being temperamental or have others noticed it i sgoing back to the annoying way it was? (man i hope its not just me, cause then im gonna feel very nit-picky!)

and this thread has been dead for a bit, so i'm also gonna post this in the twitter thread.

no, its not just you.
theyve always been annoying (i kinda like tomos tho. it keeps him 'human')
shannons is by far the best but the sleaze factor in his is a bit what the fuck?! and a bit disappointing. but dont hate the player hate the game eh.
jareds is ok when its not completely self indulgent look at me look at me. i have the! best! hair! evah! (its fun to take the piss out of tho)

30s and the hive. those are just a waste of time even focussing on.

nothings gonna change tho buddy. mars is overrrr.
just do live and fuck the rest of the shit. its for the teens so they can extort their parents

Having just enough merch on your person or in your car so that people who you mingle with notice and ask questions, rather than them seeing you head-to-toe and in war paint and them being too scared to ask.

I think simplicity is far more effective these days. The website is a jumbled mess IMO. The old promo boxes you could embed on your websites with news, audio, video, tour dates, links, etc.. worked long before Facebook and Twitter were around. I believe in the future, Twitter will allow bands to have features that a regular user wouldn't. For example, if you see a hashtag displaying #30Secondstomars, it could display a drop down menu or pop up when you do a mouseover to let you select what you'd like to find out about the band. News, Audio, Video, Tour, etc.. If Twitter wants to compete with the likes of Facebook, I think an idea like that would work great.

I've heard about that, and it's great that you're assessing what's effective in your region.

Not stupid at all. I think that the effort to do just that has been a focus -- after all, when K&Q was being released, promotions toward it's release date and pre-purchase were cranked real high. You may be right, though, and maybe we can pull together collectively to really make the next single shoot right up to the top. It's also a thing about availability, too, though. That's the downside. (Not everyone may get the opportunity to purchase it the same day/week.)

I think this brings up a good point. I write a column about Mars. I'd be curious to know what kinds of things people would like to read about--aside from sales stuff. Generally, I write about the band, but I also highlight the Echelon A LOT, because I find what we're doing so interesting. So many people care about so many cool things.

Thanks for the post. I'll be curious to see the answers.
