Very useful information taken from the previous HMH Roll Call thread

Some picture links from the HMH building outside:
* HMH left
* HMH right

this is when you're ' under/out' the station and look to the left

this is seen from the other side

and this is the station

(pictures by Eevio, thanks girl! )

Transport to/from HMH:
You can reach the HMH easy from Station Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA (train, metro and bus station).
#1 & #2 Metro & Bus: GVB (Amsterdam public transport) - English

#3 Train: NS (Dutch Railway) home page - English. Unfortunatly the travel plans for Feb 2007 cannot be found on the internet yet.

#4 Car:
HMH visitors can park their care in every surrounding parking garage. Everything is on walking distance.
For parkinglots P1 (Transferium), P3 (naast Living Tomorrow), P4-P5 (Villa ArenA), P6 (Pathé, Heineken Music Hall), P10 (ArenA Plaza) and P19 (HES / ROC) you have to buy a drive-out ticket at HMH.
More info: Bereikbaar Amsterdam - Dutch

To figure out your travel plan you can also use this website: 9292OV - Dutch
Maps of Amsterdam and public transport: Maps Amsterdam - English

Maps of the area:

Information about the surroundings of HMH + Hotel information:

It's from the Amsterdam ArenA Station website but that's the same area.
If you'll need any translation just ask in this thread there are plenty of Dutch Echelon around.
Info on transport to and from Amsterdam will follow...

FROM and TO AMSTERDAM

Planes:
Amsterdam airport = SCHIPHOL AMSTERDAM. There are more airports but this is the most easy.
* AMSTERDAM SCHIPHOL – 15 minutes by train to the venue
* Rotterdam airport – 01 hour to 01:40 minutes by train to the venue
* Eindhoven airport – 01:40 minutes by train from the venue

Trains:

PARIS to AMSTERDAM

Step #1: PARIS GARD DU NORD to AMSTERDAM CENTRAL -Thalys – approximately 04:11 minutes
Step #2: AMSTERDAM CENTRAAL to AMSTERDAM BIJLMER ARENA – Train or Metro - 15 minutes
Costs: Thalys + Train or Metro AMSTERDAM CENTRAAL to AMSTERDAM BIJLMER ARENA €2,41 (one way ticket)
** Most cheap option

Or

Step #1: PARIS GARD DU NORD to AMSTERDAM AIRPORT (SCHIPHOL) - approximately 04:14 minutes
Step #2: AMSTERDAM SCHIPHOL to AMSTERDAM BIJLMER ARENA - approximately 0:15 minutes
Cost: all in one Thalys ticket, you already got the ticket to arrive at the venue station then
Ticket : PARIS GARD DU NORD to AMSTERDAM BIJLMER ARENA

Prices of the THALYS tickets are variable, I believe there are some nice discounts now.
So I don’t know the exact prices from Paris to Amsterdam will be but it might be cheaper to go for option number 2. As you can see travel time is not really different at those two options.

Rotterdam & Eindhoven airport do not have direct railway connections. You have to take a bus into town first before taking the train.

From Eindhoven Airport:
Bus 401 leaves every 20 minutes to Eindhoven Central Station (Eindhoven Station NS). It takes 22 minutes to get from the Airport to the Station. The bus leaves on saturday at following times: 07 / 22 / 37 / 52. Tickets can be bought on board at an automatic vendingmachine € 3.20 (coins) Airport - Railwaystation, the driver does not sell tickets and has no change. Bus 401 Info page.
Also there is a bus that goes from the Airport directly to Amsterdam. Airport Express. The bus goes from Eindhoven Airport via Utrecht to Amsterdam Central Station. That will take you aprox 2 hours 15 minutes, costs €19 and tickets can be bought at the airport. From Amsterdam Central Station you will have to take the train or Metro to Heineken Music Hall.

From Rotterdam Airport:
The RET Airport Shuttle number 33 departs every 15 minutes to Rotterdam Central Station. The trip takes aprox. 20 minutes. You can buy an "hour net card" for €2,70 either at the AKO shop at the Airport, RET selling points or directly with the bus driver. Departure times on saturday are: 05 / 20 / 35 / 50
Airport Website on Public Transport

LONDON to AMSTERDAM

Step #1: LONDON ST. PANCRAS to BRUSSEL(S) ZUID/MIDI (SOUTH) – Eurostar – approximately 01:50 minutes
Step #2: BRUSSEL(S) ZUID/MIDI (SOUTH) to AMSTERDAM BIJLMER ARENA – Train - approximately 03:14 minutes
Costs: Eurostar + Train BRUSSEL(S) ZUID/MIDI (SOUTH) to AMSTERDAM BIJLMER ARENA €2,41 (one way ticket)

Or

Step #1: LONDON ST. PANCRAS to BRUSSEL(S) ZUID/MIDI (SOUTH) – Eurostar – approximately 01:50 minutes
Step #2: BRUSSEL(S) ZUID/MIDI (SOUTH) to AMSTERDAM CENTRAAL – Thalys - approximately 02:41 minutes
Step #3: AMSTERDAM CENTRAAL to AMSTERDAM BIJLMER ARENA – Train or Metro - approximately 15 minutes
Costs: Eurostar + train AMSTERDAM CENTRAAL to AMSTERDAM BIJLMER ARENA €2,41 (one way ticket)
** Most fast option by train

Prices of the EUROSTAR tickets are variable, I believe there are some discounts when you book early.
So I don’t know the exact prices from London to Amsterdam.

! For the Eurostar and Thalys train you’ll need to buy a special ticket beforehand to book a place on the train.
! If you are under 26 you can get discound on the Eurostar and Thalys.

- If you want to go to Amsterdam City Centre, to your hotel/hostel for instance, take the train to Amsterdam Centraal (Centre)
- If you want to go to the HMH venue straight away go to station Amsterdam Bijlmer ArenA.

TOURIST INFORMATION :
* Amsterdam Tourist information
* Wikipedia about Amsterdam

Train information:
* NS - Trains in the Netherlands
You can buy train tickets to travel in the Netherlands at a ticket box (computer) on Schiphol or any train station in the country, you have to pay with bank account. Or you can go to the ticket office (desk: National/Netherlands) where you can pay cash as well. The first option is a little cheaper, because the ticket offices charge some service costs.
- When you want to buy a train ticket for out of the country, you'll have to buy it at the International ticket office.

Bus & tram tickets
Here's a list where you can buy tickets for the busses and trams in Amsterdam. You can choose between the following (disposable) chip cards;
1. one-hour ticket ( € 2,60 )
2. 2 one-hour tickets ( € 5,00 )
3. 24 hours ticket ( € 7,50 )
4. 48 hours ticket ( € 11,50 )
5. 72 hours ticket ( € 15,00 )

The 24 and 48 hours tickets are ALSO valid on nightliners (busses). One-hour tickets are not, then you should buy a ticket at the driver for € 3,50 (only valid for nightliners). The tickets above are only useable in trams and busses.

Another option is to buy the Amsterdam All In 1 Travel Ticket. With this ticket you can travel from Schiphol to any Amsterdam trainstation (and back), and use the public transportation in Amsterdam including nightliners.
1. 24 hours ticket ( € 13,25 )
2. 48 hours ticket ( € 17,30 )
3. 72 hours ticket ( € 20,45 )

(thanks to Peer, Larissa and Jesco for the info above)

I'm not sure actually.... unsure.gif as this is a gig by Mojo which sells through LiveNation and Eventim. And I believe if you can buy tickets on eventim, you can't buy them in CD-stores unsure.gif They might have changed that rule as I know there's been a lot of comments about that, but if I were you I'd give them a call first. Just to be sure..

Amsterdam doesn't have a strippenkaart anymore. It's all OV-chip.

Oh fuck, that's right. We still use the 'strippenkaart' in Eindhoven :/ Going to look into the options of a (temporary) ov chip card

You can buy an 'anonymous' chip card at the stations. It has 5 euros on it. You can use it in the metro, tram or bus.

By the time it is March the strippenkaart will probably be no longer valid but for now the strippenkaart can still be used in the tram. wink.gif
For the metro it is public transport chipcard only.
