Times are different today. Mostly because we are more and more over here.
The "old" have to learn to share. The "new" have to learn to accept that there was a history before them.
I know that this thread will be slashed in piece by some. SO, I'm happy to put my little answer before it'll happen.
Thanks you, Fusion to put a dreamy smile on my face in this early morning

Hmmm well I technically classify as a 'current' person I guess as I only finally signed up earlier this year. However, I did start with original Mars album so I am feeling a little torn. So can I just be a coldie?

A lot of us have read this board for years, and just not joined until recently. Myself included.
I think that there is a lot to be gained by everyone sharing their thoughts and experiences across the spectrum here.

...when you know that buying this shirt for $32.95 is totally odd, because you could get the original design from mr. 7corners via pm for free. Eric should totally sue them lol.
Does it count as being oldschool when you actually know who is 7Corners is and remember that design being posted?

Same thing happened with an Australian Echelon design - it ended up on hot topic or some shit.
Furthermore to oldschool memories - one of the first ever threads I read was by Diane and it had pics of her doing promo. She was in the pics....

or even better, watching people think "praying for a riot" was actually called 7corners.

Or when it was virtually impossible to get a hold of the unreleased tracks, because you'd be flayed if you asked for them?

The first time I heard 30STM and got into them was when Capricorn hit the radio back in 2002. I instantly loved it. Being hard into other rock/metal acts like T00L, A Perfect Circle, and others back then I didn't get around to checking out Mars any further until I saw them play at Lollapalooza 2003...that did it. I was hooked. I immediately bought their album and couldn't stop listening to it. I loved the vocals and the layered sounds of that album.
Needless to say a few years later when "A Beautiful Lie" was in the works I was anticipating that album in a huge way. When I heard it though, I personally found it to be quite a "moving on" from the heavier, layered sounds of the first album and more of a raw, fitting-in-with-the-present-bands type of sound. I still enjoyed the album to a certain extent, still do, but it was a far cry from the original work. Even now when I throw their music on it's the first album. I still support the band and catch them live whenever I can (I think I've seen them 5 or 6 times now? 2 of those before ABL) but I definitely long for their old school sound.
With all the new activity going on, it seems I remember reading somewhere that they were going to go back to their older sound or revisit the first album in a sense, so that has me anticipating their music once again in a big way. One can hope. We have enough fast-paced, almost punk/emo sounding acts today, that sound so much the same. I'd love for Mars to stand out again like they did back in 2002/2003.
