the idea is a great one for the fans, but an expensive one because it would have to include airfare, meals and hotel - this would need to be done by EMI and chances are slim to none for that given their money issues....

It wouldn't have to include any of those things, it could just be a chance to go. You pay if you feel like going kinda thing.

A release party IS for the fans. I was at an album launch last night and have another to go to next month ... Obviously with a hugely popular band like 30 Seconds to Mars it would be a much larger affair but its still the same as any other album release. Just bigger is all.

Indeed, and wow that needs to be one kick ass contest if they'd do it as I think they'd need to make it a prize for two incl tickets there and hotel. Honestly, I get that with internal competitions here at my company so I'd expect that for something like this they'd include travel and accomodation. It wouldn't be like they're inviting everybody to come to LA or wherever.
That is, if they'd even cosider something like this. Personally I think the smaller - but more widely accessible "missions / competitions" are more realistic. Or local launches then...

I remember we had another thread somewhere here, talking about how great it would be to see the Letos's home on "MTV Cribs". That was similarly sick. As Jeto said - leave them alone. Try to be happy without knowing what brand of toilet paper they use
And regarding the lab - honestly, many people here wouldn't even be able to differentiate between a guitar and a bass - what the hell would you wanna do in a studio?

I think we would need more than duct tape for those fangirls. Maybe the guys could get a deal if they ordered LOTS of straight jackets. Although, isn't the new dress code black?

Yeah, but do you really think they want to see The Lab? I think most people interested in this for the right reasons respect the band privacy. The rest shouldn't be allowed within 100 ft of the lab!!
How many fans would freak if they find out the band uses leaves instead of toilet paper? Like ZOMG, I need to know what kind of leaves!!!!
