A few tweet contests do not take the time away from the making of the album and the work that goes into it. It probably gives the guys, especially Jared a mental break. They are checking the tweets, interacting as much as possible with those on the hunt and hopefully getting a little bit of fun out of the adventure of chasing down a package and finding a location with only a picture tweeted.
Twitter is all about communication - instant and fast. The tweet contest are fun and gets the people checking what the band is up to at the moment- with a contest going on like they did in San Diego for Comic Con, or in LA just for a Friday giggle it got the follower numbers up and more people checking to see what the band was about.
It is marketing, it is getting the word out there- it is as Helios put it Preparation for whats to come..... to make the album is a lot of work that has been the primary focus for Jared, Shannon and Tomo for over a year now. A little mental break occassionally is not going to slow down the release of the album...
The release date was tweeted last week - you should be following the band on twitter- the date is Oct. 20. hmmmmmm per their tweet....

Mental breaks are very important when one has hidden themself away to work their soul out on a project. Particularly in an airless room, out here, in summer. I wouldn't begrudge another person a break. They're important for people in general.
And the hunts and contests are certainly extending interest and building excitement. Not that any of *us* can *get* much more excited about the new music ...
All things in their due time. The band is working. They don't owe us anything. They're doing what they need to do. It's time to trust that.
Nine, kudos on your Valhalla cover, I enjoyed it.
