Oh hey that's pretty damn cool! Not just the new breed of microbe that "eats" plastic faster but also that a high school student thought about and did it. This could indeed be a blessing.
Or a curse. The "I've read too much apocolyptic sci-fi for my own good" part of me has visions of these new "hungrier" critters multiplying into insane numbers, finishing off all the waste plastic and then attacking all the plastic stuff that is actually in use and needed.

"awesome I want one - the cardboard keyboard I bought last month didn't last long"
"I kinda miss the plastic keyboards... and stuff"
