For those of you who won't read the rest of this thread, there are two things going on here. One: helping build houses for Habitat for Humanity. Read below to find out more. Two: raising 1235 lots of British pounds to build a Habitat for Humanity house. Despite the site being in the UK, this is an international project, so I specified that the money go to whatever country and region needs it most. HFH will choose where the funds go once we get each house done.

If you wish to donate, or want to help get others to donate you can use this link and help build our house. If you forget the link, you can always google 'Echelon House' and it should come up first. We finished our first house in 6 short days, and our second house in one, so let's keep it up!

OUR WEBSITE WITH ALL THE INFO Including the 'SALE' ITEMS

Everything you need to know (and more!) is located on this website. Currency converters, help with how to donate, photobucket links, the facebook group, , stuff for sale...you name it, it's there. Please let me know if there are payment issues (i.e. you want to donate and don't have a way to pay) and I can try and work something out. Sometimes the system is picky so PLEASE contact me if there are any issues.

IF YOU WANT TO PAY VIA PAYPAL: Please read the link on the main page of the website.

Alright, lovely people who still inhabit this place. By now we've all seen the ebay auction where someone gets to do the house-building thing with the band. Which is all well and good, but since the majority of us won't be paying an exorbitant amount of money to steal/lick Jared's sweat or whatever other disgusting things people do nowadays give to charity and help build the house, I thought perhaps we could contribute in other ways.

So here goes:

There are Habitat Humanity builds all across the globe. Find the one nearest you, and go help. Go by yourself in your jeans. Get a team of you, wear red and white, paint t-shirts for the event. I don't care, it doesn't matter. If you can't go to a build, find some other way to help. Donate money, whatever. Just do something.

I was having a bit of trouble finding all of the builds, so I suggest you go to this site to find out what you can do in your area:

Habitat for Humanity International

I don't care if you want to do it because you think the band will like it, because you love The Kill, or whatever other shitty reasons people come up with for doing things. If you want to do it just because of the band, fine. If you don't even like the band anymore, then just do it because it's a good thing to do.

And for those of you who enjoy picture-taking,* I've even made a group photo album on photobucket (although I'm unsure as to how it works at the moment, apparently we can all add photos to it). It's Echelon Habitat for Humanity and the password is echelon because I'm lame and don't feel like picking anything else. You do have to have a regular photobucket account to add pictures, so if you don't have one, you can PM the picture to me and I'll add it.

Take pictures, have fun, and do something good for others. It doesn't matter why you do it. It's really that simple.

So....

Turn this off right now and go outside and breathe wink.gif

*Which isn't mandatory. Nor is dressing up or whatever. But I know how you people are...you like pictures and theme days, ha! So if that's what it takes to get you out, then I'm all for it.

hammer this
don't hit that thumb
help if you can
and when you're done

a home for someone
it's not that difficult
a couple of hours work
the house that the echelon built

wow lame but... that was for you lily wub.gif

Thanks for the kick in the ass, Lily. As I said in the other thread, this is something I've been wanting to do for a long time but just never "got around to it." So I'm going to tentatively plan to do it next month, when I'm slightly less busy. smile.gif

I think people might hate me for spamming this thread in other ones, but whatever. It's a good thing to do, and I hope some people do it.

Thanks Jeto. I really hope we can get something positive out of it. *laughs* I'm sure if Jared told people to do it, they would. wink.gif That bastard.

But as I said in the other thread to Jen- it's just a worthwhile thing to do, doesn't require any skills, and could be a lot of fun for a bunch of people to do together as well.

*hopes people actually sign up*

Great idea Lily. smile.gif
I can't help build but I did spend about $50.00 during my recent trip to the Grocery Store helping our local Girl Scout Troop collect items (food, toiletries, other personal items, baby items) to help out with the local homeless shelters.
I also depend on some local contributions and I always do what I can to give back. I know it's not helping build new lives for others, but at least I'm helping some get what they need.
It made me feel good to do it.

Good luck and I hope your roll call thread fills up fast.
I say don't do it just cuz the band is doing it. DO IT CUZ YOU CARE. wink.gif

I will have to donate some cash as I am on doctor's orders to not do anything strenuous (I figure helping build a house is pretty damn strenuous. lol) until after baby is born . . . in late September/early October. blink.gif

*wants to swing a hammer, but will have to settle for whipping the wallet out*

hmmm.... so i checked out to what org my company was attached to when they launched the "building of houses" project. but that was with a local org having the same cause as HFH.

anywho, donating simply was on my mind when this was launched. still on my mind but i'll see what i can do..... 'cause i just sent out my support for until.org unsure.gif

do you need to have actual experience in home building to help?...i've never really wielded a hammer or power tool ever, and the qualifications for volunteers seem to suggest that a level of experience is needed or required.

i did check locally, and there is one project happening here...i might rally some of my friends to help out...great idea there, lily *thumbs up*

Almost 2 years ago, my college and career church group was actually originally thinking of volunteering in the rebuilding efforts in New Orleans in the eve of Hurricane Katrina...but then when we contacted certain charity agencies (including Habitat) they had a massive response from volunteers coming that they actually declined for us to come, so we ended up doing our mission work in Peru.

anyways, just a side story there...if i can't get enough people, then i may just donate locally smile.gif

I really like the idea of helping, but of course there are no builds in my God damned country. I swear to god, this country will go to hell dry.gif
Anyway, I'll support this cause in spirit smile.gif as lame as that sounds

*claps hands* Thanks guys. And if you do decide to donate, please let me know when you do, and I will make a list of that as well (just not how much you donate, I don't really care about that).

Christine, nice to see that you are helping others wherever the cause may be. smile.gif

Joy, as far as I know you need ZERO experience - they always promote it where I work, and it always says you don't need to know anything at all (because a lot of people are say the same as you about power tools and such), but I will keep digging to find out if that's not the case.

normally, they don't require "building" experience.

here, since we're almost always on a "bayanihan" mode (please help with the translation tongue.gif), most are done "manually". like someone will mix the cement, some can help carry pails of it or something like that. it really depends. there will always be a task available for everyone around.

i haven't joined such project yet but i heard it's a lot of fun wink.gif let's see.... i'll gladly join the food/water brigade, though tongue.gif or paint. i love fiddling with small things but don't trust me with electrical stuff.... shhhh.... happy.gif

If you select a site to help out at, they ask you to fill out a questionnaire outlining your experience level. One of the options is "No Experienc (Willing to Learn)" or some such.

They always build here in Kingston, if I can manage to work it around my schedule, I'll try to go help out this summer. It's one of those things that I've thought about doing but didn't know how to go about it. smile.gif

Oh no....why? Like you say is a good thing, i prefer you spamming this better than those absurd fangirls post in every thread.

Its a very good idea even there's no Habitat for Humanity here in Spain...but always we can make a donation. I would prefer to colaborate in other way, and try to involve to others, you know, but if this is the only posibility for me, is ok.

Thank you, Lily_17, for the information and "spamming"! smile.gif
I really need to look into this programme more, and see if there's more that I can do that just donate (as we don't have Habitat for Humanity in our country). I've heard about it before, but never seeked for information. I've always loved the idea.

Yay, thanks for clearing that up. smile.gif Lemme know when the Kingston one is, perhaps we can go together...I'm going to check the Toronto/Mississauga one and see if I can rope some people into coming.

hooray!! tongue.gif lily, thanks you for posting, this thread so far is filled with kindness tongue.gif i love it..

helping in worthwhile activities like this is really fulfulling, just last semester we helped a small community here in our place build classrooms, it was an outreach program ( a requirement in college). Experience is not really needed, you just have to do whatever you can, we did like painting walls and a bit of sweeping here and there. tongue.gif we did not fund the project, as donating large cash for me is not that possible wink.gif .. it is somehow tiring to do it every week, but it really pays, after the project was done and you see how the residents are very thankful and how they appreciate the whole thing, god! it feels like you can do the whole thing over and over again.. tongue.gif
