Okey, most of us play video games, or not, ive no clue, but some people take it too far. A unnamed helpless child in my grade hapens to play WoW ( bette rknown as world of warcraft), a multi-masssaive whatever the fuck it is. all i know is tht its a video game. The kid buys chapter books, Encyclopedia's, guide's of this game to school, he has gotten numerous detentions for reading during class. ive already gotten susspendded for trying ( rather rudley) to tka ehis books away and make him focus on the class, frnakly, idc aobut classe, he is jus annoying as badly shavin' pubes.
I play video games, yes, i have 2 game systems tht i frequently use and i play little games on the ocmputer, ya know, pass time. but im not obsesed like he is.

Video Games Trash or Treasure?

I can't believe I'm replying to this.
I think video games, as with all things, are good in moderation. You have to learn to control the game, not get addicted to it and let it ruin your life, which seems to be what's happening with a lot of WoW players, such as your young friend. I, myself, play WoW and I have since its release, and I have never become 'addicted' to it. But I can see why people do.
There are certain genres of game though that I believe are just pushing the limits a bit too much. I am not one for gory, bloody, scary games, but I don't go out and boycott them because I find them horrific. Nor do I go out and picket against the obvious stereotypes game developers put on women, what with their boobs and their asses, etc. The same stereotypes are put on men, who believe it or not, are not all made up of washboard abs and huge biceps.
I think that parents and sellers alike need to be more dedicated to promoting the ESRB rating system. My son, who is 7, loves games and he loves our Xbox 360. But I'll go to hell before I let him play something like Gears of War or Silent Hill. Right now, he plays any and all Sonic the Hedgehog games, Viva Pinata, Superman Returns, Super Monkey Ball Deluxe. And that type of game is the only thing he'll be allowed to play until he's older.
I have a friend who works at EB Games at our local mall. And he has told me that he feels bad for selling games he knows are going to little kids that are obviously not meant for little kids, but he just has no choice but to make the sale.
I'm all for games. I've been playing at least one game at a time for 10 years. (Currenly, WoW, Neverwinter Nights 2, The Sims 2 w/ all expansions, and yep, I enjoy a good round of Mahjong now and again), but I do not let them rule my life.

I've nothing against Wow, i hope to play it someday, i peronsally think that it looks like a good game. It sucks though that now in our school, people ( sadly, once included me) "tease" (for lack of a better word) this kid because the soul fact that he plays Wow, i belive he is a bit carried away with the hats and game guides and shirts, but thats his choice, not the other kids and mine. I dont think it is Wow, that is exaclty why he gets "teased", our chorus teacher plays Wow ( the chorus teacher, ironicly, is mine and this kids Homebase teacher) and she does not obbses, she hasnt played in 9 months, most kids enjoy her class, and when this kid tries to tlak aobut Wow with her she ignores him.
well, spoken. I was thinking moderation when i thought about it a little more. And i think not letting your son play bloody, Gory games is a great idea, my parents did the same thing 'till the age of 12. And as for the ESRB, they should really think aobut re'evaluaing games, maybe another rating class, less than Mature but more than Teen. Some Teen games, i think, its is unbelivable that they are in fact rated Teen.
Thank you Minara, for your views, i agree with you in the fullest. I'd like more peoples opinions.

1. My entire life had revolved around video games. It's my personal choice. It's my career. My ambition. I obviously have turned my love for video games into many different, and constructive things, such as composing VGM and going to school for game design and the like. People think that anyone who plays video games that obsessively will never make anything of themselves, but thats not entirely true. Sure, you have those that let it take all ambition and drive from them, but then you have people that turn such things into something bigger. If he feels completely comfortable being a hardcore gamer, let him. It's his choice, and it affects his life. Not yours.
2. If I were in that kid's position, and you took the book away from me like that, I would have fucking bashed your head into the fucking desk until you stopped moving. What he does with himself should not be any of your concern.

I agree with Mig, too. People should not tease this boy.
Look at it this way. We'll use 30STM as a analogy. You love them. You promote them. You wear their shirts and have posters of them up in your locker. You've probably scribbled lyrics or drawn the glyphs on your binders. You can't stop talking about them. Your friends are probably sick to hell of it.
How would you feel if everyone was cruel to you for liking them? The way you and your friends are treating this kid is no different than someone might treat you for liking 30. Just because you guys think he's overobsessed or taking it too seriously... well, I can think of several of my friends here whom I think take this band too seriously or are way too crazy about them. But it's not my place to tell them how to live their lives.
Live your life. And who knows, once you start playing WoW, you might end up like this kid. I have books and shit about the game, too.
