(andPOP) - SEAN LENNON and LINDSAY LOHAN's friendship is at risk after the musician's decision to go public with his feelings about her "tacky" new film.

The son of late BEATLE JOHN LENNON hates the idea of Lohan's new movie CHAPTER 27, in which she plays a friend of his father's killer MARK DAVID CHAPMAN, played by JARED LETO.

In one scene the young Sean meets Chapman in Central Park, New York – less than a mile from where the deranged fan shot his father dead outside the Dakota Building.

And Lennon is far from impressed with the film's premise, stating, "It's a tacky thing to make a film about.

"Lindsay was my friend, so I don't want to hurt her feelings... I think she felt that she understood but she'd already agreed to do it."

And speaking to US TV news show THE INSIDER before checking into rehab, Lohan revealed she knew all about her friend's distaste for Chapter 27.

She said, "He's my friend but he's not supporting what went on (on the set). We respect each other... and I don't support what happened to John Lennon."
