No, you are not hallucinating.

and currently I don't care if anyone points out that it's likely to fail in comparison, because right now I'm totally in shock laugh.gif

Biggest surprise I've had in.....err ever.

David Ordell who did the original script will write again. Jim Henson (R.I.P.) company will produce.
The story is set hundreds of years after the first film and follows a mysterious girl made of fire who steals a shard of the crystal in hopes of reigniting the dying sun.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0460907/

Also especially for the purists........there will still be puppets wink.gif
However there will be CG work also, mostly for the sets/background.

Here's the thing. Have to wait until 2008.
I'm posting this now because I just recently posted photos of the Dark Crystal in the pictures thread and mentioned it in my prague photos......how bizarre is that? Yes, proof that I am tapping into my psychic sense laugh.gif

(Steph - are you slighty excited by this? hehe tongue.gif )

That, makes me happy haha...even though I prolly might get annoyed by the cgi bit.

It does be a bit shocking though. I dunno if I'm excited or pissed yet haha.
I assume I won't know until 2008 eh?
Cuz it all depends on how good/bad it turns out.
I expect it will be good though whenever I do that it seems to lead towards dissapointment.

But at least it's not a remake (like they're doing with The Last Unicorn, yes mock me if you must that was another fav. of mine when I was little) with live people.
That is another very big plus.

I'ma sit with this for a few minutes.... ohmy.gif

I love The Dark Crystal, it's been one of my favs since I was little. I just recently got it on DVD about 4 months ago , along with Fraggle Rock , and The Labyrinth lol. I hope part 2 turns out good. I know other films that have waited so long for a follow up have sometimes been a disappointment. Thanks for the info. =)

Weird. We were just talking about this movie the other day at work because there is a kid who comes in to the library a lot who looks just like the kid from the original Dark Crystal. It's uncanny.

I haven't seen that movie in years. I'll be interested in seeing how they do with a new one.

And for now I'll go revisit my old one.

Love Jim Hensons work....the lot of it. I hope this new movie will be comparativly good. on the subject of Henson....does anyone remember the Title to that Sesame Street movie where Big Bird goes to live with the Dodo's and then ends up in the circus and then all his friends come to bust him out?? I can't think of the title for the life of me. Anyway....my favorite by Henson is Labyrinth....i watch it about once every three months just to get my fill of David Bowie in his little tights.

Man I remember watching The Dark Crystal all the time with my grandma. I loved it even though those damn Skesis's or whatever were scary!

Yeah, I think they should cut out the cgi bullshit, and go full animatronics/puppets.

Hell, look at how sick Jurassic Park looked when it first came out with all the fucking animatronic dinosaurs.... i'm pretty damn sure the jim henson company can pull that shit off well.

So Steph, are you still sitting with this>? hehe. To be honest I'm pretty much the same myself.
I feel like a part of my childhood would be personally attacked if it tunred out to be a complete destruction of everythign that the original was special for.
Although a contradicting thing is the fact that I'm still damn excited that this even exists. Maybe it's just the surprise still hitting me laugh.gif Have no fear about the Unicorn........as I've not seen that. Feel free to enlighten me with thoguhts/photos/video of this creation wink.gif

Hell yeah, without a doubt. It would then be a complete homage to the great man himself. A return to the older days of filming (well not that old, but things have progressed quite a lot). As long as the majority of the CGI is kept for the backgrounds and not majorly noticeable I'm hoping it turns out ok.

Oh and while on the subject of JH, it's been a while since I posted Hoggle

Follow that bird, of course.

As for the OP, I'm very disappointed that they felt the need to do this, as well as the Last Unicorn live action (which may or may not be in production.) I grew up with those and the other Henson classics, and I really don't feel like they need to continue or remake any of those stories.

Ha yeah, well it's been in talks since I think '01 and if the site in this news blurb below says anything for how well it will turn out. I fear the day it gets made...I own it too. It's funny cuz it was my favorite movie when I was little, and I always wanted it and on my 18th birthday (like 12 years after the fact) my mom finally got it for me haha. It's been on tv a lot too...anyways heres the blurb.

I just found out that there is a new live action production of The Last Unicorn in the works! They have an official website up at http:www.the-last-unicorn.net/index.htm and according to it, the film will be a live action movie using a computer-generated unicorn. Peter S. Beagle has written the script (and it's on-line there) and they've signed Christopher Lee and Angela Lansbury to reprise their roles as King Haggard and Mommy Fortuna. Also Rene Auberjonois has been signed to reprise his role as the voice of the skeleton and will also play the role of Captain Cully. The rest of the cast has not been announced yet. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, this looks promising...

Haha I am indeed, but I think I'm leaning more towards oddly curious than wtf now.
The unicorn movie is animated and uhm well that link up there I guess could tell you more cuz it has a "the story" link haha. It's good, theres a talking pirate-like cat that if I had a cat that talked I wish would be mine.

I have this book too:

It's pretty much one of the only things I still own from my childhood haha.
I guess there's not much to say besides this could be great or a disaster but since they seem to want to stick to many of the original elements I'm hoping it will be greatness.

You remind me of the babe.

What babe?

The babe with the power.

What power?

The power of voodoo.

Who do?

You do.
