argus = in Greek mythology, he was a giant with a hundred eyes who was killed by Hermes, after which his eyes were put into the peac*ck's tail
apocryphex = derived from the Greek apokryphos which means "hidden"
So... "hidden from sight" or something like that seems to be the general consensus.
