Okay, so they worry about pervs approaching children on websites such as MySpace etc - but the problem seems to be that a lot of kids are making themselves far too accessible.

This, for example, is an email I recieved today:

Subject: hiya
heya must say your stunning, just passing through and wouldnt mind chatting, i know im 16 and the age gap is quite big but sure its only a number so anyway do reply,

Now, okay, I know I do chat to a fair few people on there who are younger than myself, mainly people who post here, but I've never spoken to this person before, for all he knows I could some wierd child murdering maniac.

Whatever happened to the whole ''remember kids, don't talk to strangers" thing?

(oh, and btw, his profile actually says 15, not 16.)

my profile is private and i've gotten messages from people 10+ years older than me. but this is the first i've heard of somebody younger approaching someone older.... ohmy.gif most people i know are pretty safe about who they friend and talk to but i guess...not everybody realizes how potentially dangerous it can be

I think it's ok for teens to have a myspace. Even 14 year olds but I do think they should add only people they know. There are many safe and privacy settings on there. They even have a link that says safety tips. I think it's absurd for parents to blame sites like this. It's their children that aren't responsible and it's THEM that let them be irresponsible. I'd say watch what your child does on the internet and make sure their profile is private and they are only adding people they know. It's a bit weird and creepy a 16 year old is talking to you like that.

LOL @ Ty. I'd like to think you were smart enough not to appraoch total strangers, especially not to go looking for people twice your age who live in your town.

I have had a 16 year old message me and ask if he could be...my slave.

I also had one that would send me 'dark poetry' at least 3x a week.

But I have also gotten far weirder shit from people older than myself.

I've ventured to myspace once. Facebook twice (that was the scary experience, actually).

I decided I just don't want to know certain shit about students/people. It might make me biased.

I laughed uncomfortably when my little sister sent me a friend request. She's like 12 or something.

Ugh. I know exactly what you mean.
My friend who is a great example has heaps of pics of him self
His full name, and what school he goes to, and I always say to him "what if some pedo tracks you down?" and he's like "It will never happen" how is he to know?
