I got this idea from another random post.. Talking about emo bands and what not...

But who as an individual artist (or as a whole band) would you consider the King or Queen of emo?

Dashboard Confessional? Bright Eyes? Jeff Buckley? Elliott Smith? That's just to name a few of who I would even consider labeling "emo." *shudder* I hate to use that word as a type of "genre" but... That's life. We evolve....

Who would you guys say?

Bayside is incredible. The first album (sirens) is a bit more angry and emotional, where the second (bayside) is more hopeful so depending on what your into, or what your mood is check out the different cds. The acoustic cd is also really good with some new songs and demos that were never released and a cover of "megan" orginally done by The Smoking Popes. I kind of have emotional ties to the band which makes them meaningful to me so I'm a bit partial.

Rites of Spring is widely considered to be the first emo band (they released their first album in 1985)

I wish my LAWN was EMO, so it would cut itself!!

Haha.

cheesy I know, but i had to say it!!

(IMG:http://thirtysecondstomars.forumsunlimited.com/style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)

The sad thing is that people associate EMO with a haircut or style of dress more than the music.

Many other bands and music types are taking on the so called EMO style.

I'd have to think about this one for a few days. Queen . . . That's gonna be a hard one.

hmmmmm.

The Early November. The dude cries as he's screaming at the end of "everything's so cold"
Doesn't get any more "emo" than that.

If you consider Jeff Buckley and Elliott Smith emo, you have serious problems. That's so stupid there can't even be any LULZ harvested. I would suggest cutting off your own ears or something similiar, like paying someone to do it for you.

I really don't get the recent trend with all these idiots pretending they know something about music.

And would you look at that! The dumbass that started this thread hasn't even heard of Rites Of Spring yet wants to crown someone as the King Of Emo! That does not surprise me in the least. Excuse me while I smash SDRE's Diary.

I honestly just felt like being an asshole to reprimand him, but it seriously pisses me off when people don't know anything about something and want to start a serious discussion about it.

Jeff Buckley = Folk-rock

Elliott Smith = Baroque Rock
