Ok, so I have some friends in a band and they were doing the warped tour, but had to leave it early, because they couldn't aford to do it anymore, which really sucks. But they also had to get back to their "real jobs"

So here is my question.

I know Shannon used to do construction (I'm not his stalker so I dont know if he still does it or not), and Jared has his acting career (dont shoot me for mentioning it), and I have no idea what Matt and tomo do.

But do they still have job's now that the band is getting more sucessful and if so do ya'll think that negatively effects their touring and their recording schedules. I would hate to think they would have to make musical sacrifices, because of the stupid real world.

It just occurred to me how tough it is to be a musician when you cant really put all of your focus into your music, because there are still bills to be paid.

They should create a music endowment for up and coming bands so they dont have to sacrifice their music for bills....

did this sound really random and retarded?

I was just referring to FACT, don't worry.

Fund To Assist Canadian Talent. A Canadian indie band can get a loan from the government to record an album, like New Porno did, and they have five years to pay it off. If they don't pay it off in five years and are still on an independent label in that time, the debt is forgotten.

Damn I bet taxes are high in that country. I was thinking more along the lines of private endowment. I dont want the government having any hand in the music industry and I also dont think American's would want to pay tax dollars for it, and they shouldn't ahve too. However Bill Gates or some other rich bastard could start an endowment.

That's the thing, if it's independent, it's not a part of the industry. It's not these huge corporations using loans, it's four guys trying to record an album in their basement, that's why FACT is so awesome.

No i dont mean that industry can do it. It can be like any endwoment with multiple supporters and they give out loans to bands. The bands then aren't tied to one company or anything. But it also keeps the goverment out of it. Because our government is different from the Canadian government, not only in the minds of the people, but also is ethics and standards. So that wouldn't work. Although maybe if their were some grant programs, but a lot of those are sponsered by companies as well. I could ask my mom she is a director of grants and contracts for a University and they have a rather large arts program...I bet there are some music grants...hmmmm....interesting.

Great now you ahve me thinking...damn it it's still early.....bah.

Actually, I thought we were still discussing the Canadian governemnt. Oops. Anyway, coming from working class backgrounds, I will say that socialist governments aidings musicians = cool. That said, I do enjoy my American indie rock most of all.

Yeah.

yeah, good call. they should start one of those up around here for people too. cept not for music. maybe for drinking or video games or something. like, i wanna get drunk as shit every day, but then i have to go to work. that's not fair. why should i have to pay my bills? something should definitely be done so that people don't have to handle responsibilities and can do whatever the fuck they want.

We do its called welfare...thanks JFK and LBJ... ::did I say that outloud:: blink.gif

Besides are you creating anything while you are drunk and playing video games? I think not. But if you are making music that is completely different. Obviously there would have to be standards of expectations...you know like you have have a certain amount of work done by certain deadlines...just like any other grant programs...you couldnt just be a slacker.

so basically what your saying is that if you are a musician you should not have to handle your responsibilities. so if this takes place and actually works, what are these musicians gonna do when they sell millions of records? live rockstar lives? cuz i don't think that's really fair. sit on your ass, pay no bills, but as long as your making music everything will be taken care of for you. then become rich. wow, good deal. i'm bout to pick up a guitar.

Shannon also used to do a lot of fashion photography. . .

But there are a lot of diffrent ways for bands to get money. eg. a country singer I know has been *invested* in by a bank, (weird, i know) but it gives her money so that she can record.

Anyhoo. I agree. Bands should get more money. Or at lest bands I like.
My hands hurt too much to type out the 300 diffrent ways that bands can get money, but are pain in the ass to get.

You know, I was starting to really think you were one of those 'dont trust the evil government' liberal fanatics...until I saw you hack down welfare. So what gives? What the hell are you? haha

Lol...welcome to my world. I am one of those crazy moderates. I dont trust the goverment on most things, except to protect us...sorta.

Here is my basic stance on issues (if you disagree ask me first, before you assume you know why I think this way):

The Pros:

Gun ownership (owns guns herself and enjoys hunting with her mom, dad, and sisters...vegans and veggies dont hate me)
gay rights
military
Sex-ed in schools
Iraq war
Pro Confederate Flag, its history...if you want to ask me about it then do, but like I already said...dont assume.

The cons:

increased taxes
welfare
federal health insurance

in the middle:

Mostly pro-choice, but if you are 6 months pregnant and you just now decided you dont want the kid...to damn bad. And if you ahve 3 or more abortions you need some serious help...its called a condom idiot.

Pro enviroment to an extent...yes I love nature and I love the enviroment and it should be protected, but it takes stages, you can't just fix it over night.

Mostly pro women's rights, but if a man and woman have been at a company an equal amount of time, but she has taken time off to have two kids hell no she shouldnt be making the same as him. Likewise if he took time off for health reasons or to play Mr. Mom.

Religion in schools, I believe it should stay out of the schools, but is acceptable at sporting events, since they are not required and praying for the safety of kids is good for those who believe, and for those who dont...why do they care.

If you must know I am a registered Republican and a card carrying member of the party. However I my representative is a Democrat and I voted for him on purpose, but my 2 senators and my president are republicans and I voted for them as well.

Oh and FYI I dont believe in more than two political parties, because I dont like the idea of coalition governments.

Feel free to ask me what you want, but like I said please dont assume.

Yeah, I was cool with that too - until my 10 year old little girl came home the first day they taught it and gleefully told me all about sperm & wetdreams. mad.gif Now I'm not quite sure they're doing it right. Idiots.

Well I think at this point is better than teaching absitance only education, because that is what they tried to teach in my schools and some many girls got pregnant, because they believe what some guy said, because some you teenage guy knows all about how to prevent pregnancy...please. But true it has been 12 years since I was in Junior High...ok I feel old now.

it is fine that they pray if they believe, like keep it to yourself but i dont think they need to make a point and make everyone in the crowd do so

and it is unconstitutional to do so

oh man my professor would be so proud
