And I hope that no one minds a n00b doing this kind of "OMG I NEED ANSWERS" kind of thing. This is basically because it's sometimes hard on the internet to remember who is whom, and it's nice to put some details to the various names, photos and avatars that are floating around everywhere.
Anyway, here is a little meme thing I made up. And so you guys get the idea (I word my questions oddly sometimes,) I'll go first. How's that grab ya?
Oh, and please FEEL FREE TO SKIP ANY QUESTIONS YOU FIND TOO PERSONAL.
What are you called / do you like to be called? Jules, or Jay. LJ name is Kapunua; that's my Hawaiian name.
What the hell is that in your avatar? Jackie Chan, and what I try to live by sometimes: "What Would Jackie Do?"
How old are you? 33. Too old for concerts.
Where are you from? The Beautiful Island of Long, born and raised.
Edumacation: BA in English and literature. Some biology, pre-med and theater. Entirely useless.
What do you do for money, honey? (Work, school, whatever...) I work as a vet assistant and kennel chick at an animal hospital, and I also dance Hula professionally, usually during the summer.
Where do you get your kicks? (Sorry, old school AC/DC ref. What are your hobbies?) Hula is my first love; Kung Fu is my addiction. I like to read, play video games, go swimming when it's warm, and watch movies. I love to write. I try to draw sometimes, but I suck at it. Also I make my own stupid music videos. Much fun. I volunteer every day of my life by being an avian rehabber. I currently have 27 birds in my care.
What are your goals and dreams? I would so love to get my stupid novels published someday. Hey, it could happen, you never know! I dream of having my own littla halau (Hula school) where I could teach until I'm like 90 or something.
How are those jobs / hobbies a part of who you are? I was a miserable person until Hula came into my life. There was something about it that calmed me down and let me breathe again. It still works for me. To an extent, all of the things I love do. Kung Fu is the best meditation. You can't panic while you're training.
Single / married / holding out / don't care / kids? Single, happy, fulfilled. Husband would tie me down and not in a fun way. Kids someday, probably on my own.
First language? English
Polyglot? A smattering of French, and enough Hawaiian to get by.
Have you had adventures? Yes, I travel alone a lot, sometimes for Hula, sometimes for kicks. Been to the top of Kilauea, conversed with Pele. Been surfing which is always fun. Enjoy heights and hanging out of windows. Sparring with my training brothers and sisters is also a rush.
Movies you like? Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Quills, Shallow Grave, Advent Children, The Usual Suspects, Lilo and Stitch, Spirited Away, Arsenic and Old Lace, The Truman Show, Fargo, Kung Fu Hustle, Young Frankenstein, Star Wars, The Godfather, Pirates of the Caribbean, Endless Waltz, Mononoke Hime, Millennium Actress, almost anything with Jackie Chan. (Lifted that list right off my MySpace.
Books you like? Too many to name, really. It would be a list of hundreds. Briefly, though, I like: almost anything by Shakespeare; In Search of Schrodinger's Cat (a cool book on quantum reality); pretty much any physics books in laymen's terms; Jane Eyre; Wuthering Heights; Wide Sargasso Sea; The Great Train Robbery; Pele and Hi'iaka (a story in Hawaiian chant); Peter Pan (the original by JM Barrie); Captain Hook - The Adventures of a Notorious Youth; Pigs In Heaven; most anything by Stephen King but especially the Gunslinger series; the Harry Potter series; and many different manga from Japan.
Smoke? HELL no.
Drink? A few times a year.
Drugs? Nope, hard to get me to take aspirin, even.
Religious? No, but witchy.
What are your issues / hot buttons? Rights, equality, the current administration, Native American issues.
Pets? Three dogs (two Salukis, Trisky and Haku, and one border collie/ShepX, Sano,) a giant green iguana named Pendragon, a bluejay named Cassidy, a retarded grackle named Lil Jon, a blind grackle named Ray and a snail named Salvatore Giuliano. My wild bird wards are not pets.
"Robin... Do you have anything to add?" "No... No, I don't." (Cookies to anyone who gets that reference...) : Actually, why not? Vegetarian, health-freak, animal rights, liberal (the usual pro's: choice, gay rights, equality, gun control, etc. as well as a special interest in Native American rights), travel in the winter and early spring, was raised by various family members in close-knit community, helped to raise younger family members, must have Kung Fu as much as possible in order to sleep well, must live by the ocean.
Now to the fun, meaningful stuff! Hurrah!
How did you first hear about 30 Seconds to Mars? Oddly, on Fandom Wank about a month ago over Jared's cagey "I'm gay" thing. Thought for a while, "Jared who?" and then out of boredom and avoidance of sleep, watched the video The Kill. Could NOT get the freaking song out of my head the next day, which hasn't happened to me literally in years.
What made you fall in love with this band? The Kill. It made me remember how to love music.
Echelon? Yes, a n00b.
Have you been to any concerts? If so, how many? No, but I hope to go.
Any stand-out 30STM experiences? So far, just getting into both CDs and driving down deserted highways really fast, listening to them really loud!
Which are your favorite songs and why? Well, The Kill I guess, because it was my first and I love the way it builds and then breaks open. From Yesterday, because it shows so many sides to the entire band. Battle of One, because Shannon wins at music.
Which are your "theme songs" or the soundtracks to your life, or incidents in your life? Edge of the Earth. To me, it's a song about people who can't just sit around. It's how I try to live.
What else do you listen to aside from 30 STM? I mostly listen to Hawaiian music like the Makaha Sons, Keali'i Reichel, Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu, Kekuhi Kanahele and the like, but I also love the 90's Seattle scene music, Vanessa Mae, Lo Fidelity Allstars, Mozart (especially the Requiem Mass,) Leonard Cohen (LOVE!) Everyone must listen to Leonard Cohen! Nick Cave, (LOVE!) Talking Heads, and also some Japanese music, from traditional / cultural ancient songs to J-pop and soundtracks. Really just a little bit of everything, except for country music. For the most part, I don't enjoy country music.
Biscuit? I hope not! But I am not going to sit here and call any of the boys ugly; they are unreasonably handsome, all of them. I know I can occasionally get effusive about beauty, but I really don't mean anything by it and say the same things about people I know personally, too.
A link to your pic in the picture thread, for quick and easy reference? Shoots, why did I make this so difficult? Now it's going to take me forever to find it. >_> STUPID! http://thirtysecondstomars.emiforums.com/i...st&p=575209 I think that's right.
Feel free to post any more questions, too; then previous posters can go back and edit them into their replies if they want.
Have fun! Talk about yourself. We all love doing that.
~~Jules
