Does anyone out there know?
If he has them stacked, I wouldn't touch them if I were you.

"How the hell are you going to lift that shit by yourself?" is the real question.

hahaha yeah right. I happen to be an accomplished musician. so enlighten me what's its purpose other then for looks and for "self monitoring" your sound? which is a total load of crap cuz if you have ever played on any huge stage (which I have) then you will know that you wont hear that other cabinet...you will hear your monitors and thats about it.
there is no reason to do it. so don't try to bullshit your way out of it.

the reason for stacking amps is 1) to conserve room (the most ridiculous of reasons but still!) 2) to better project your sound and 3) to give a better tone control IN that projection
so eat shit "accomplished" boy. and by the way - if you're talking about being on a "big stage" and monitors and bullshit, its because they've miced your amps and therefore there would be no reason to have anything more than a small combo to begin with. so under your logic, cabinets are all together superfluous.
p.s. the real reason for stacking is because back when they were created, artists needed more volume and so they created 8x12 monster cabinets and figured out that they were too clumsy and big, so they created 2 4x12 cabinets instead. this is where it truly comes from and why they are classically "stacked" together.

I would agree with your statements about the whole "better project your sound" and direction of projection comments if this was still the case but it IS not.
to put it this as well...lets say you are a small band--and you dont get miced---well then there is no reason why you need two speakers stacked if you are playing that shitty of a club that you don;t run through the PA. there? does that explain it better? and no cabinets are NOT superflous! because if you knew anything about speaker enclosures then you would know that different woods, different sizes, etc. all effect the sound.

And it also sounds like they've been in that room for a while.
He probably just jams for himself.
So I don't think it really matters if it looks "stupid" in a home setting.
Whatev's.
