this is not a matter of opinion...there are bands that i dont like but i can still admit they play very well....
but this is not the case...i love these guys cause they are such good musicians and they are so fresh...they dont sound like everything else...plus i like their vocalists sound...its different and i know that this means they will never be super succesful but i dont care...
so i would like to ask to anyone who has heard the new album....
what do you think?
from what ive heard so far it sounds awesome....

Anyway I really like the new CD too. Welcome Home is a really good song even if the main riff is a bit of a "kashmir" rip off.

Not too many vocalists diverge from what they normally do. Whatever key(s) suits your voice best is usually where the vocalist will stay at.

You haven't listened enough. Additionally, being a good musician doesn't require one to have insane technical skills (although Coheed definately tends to be a little self-indulgant at times with their technical skills). If you've only heard a Favor House Atlantic, Devil In Jersey City, Welcome Home, and Blood-Red Summer then I can understand why you'd think the way you do. One could make the arguement that good music means a good melody...which would make just about all death metal not "good" music. Coheed has a great balance between technical stuff (including both technical rhythms AND song-structuring), melody, harmony, and variation in intensity. This balance is what makes them such good musicians.

I've heard between 3 and 5 songs of theirs. in my experience if a band can't get it done in that many songs, then they can't get er done! but tell you what, i'll download a few songs and get back to you ... because I'm not going to do it all right now, and I won't be here for the next few days.
p.s. i never said that being a good musician required insane technical skill... i did say it requires more than catchy phrasing. also i don't know about your understanding of the term 'melody' but saying death metal (most) has no melody is the most ridiculous thing i've ever heard in my life. you lose 50 points for your argument right there, son.
