I'd take another listen to Jared's audio clip in the Acropolis regarding what A Beautiful Lie means to him, can't get much more authentic than that.

hmm a beautiful lie, maybe the perfect lie,the lie that is so perfect that it has no errors or anything, and that makes it beautiful,i thought of that a few mintues ago actually and i would have thought of a crime scene where a murder kills somebody but does it perfect so nobody would be able to know that it was him.

Other idea is a marriage and the guy cheats on a girl or the girl on the guy,ill use the guy cheats girl theme,he is in a happy mariage but there is beautiful woman he just wants to shag, like it was with angelina jolie and brad pitt, both amazingly good looking persons, and because of that he probably fell in love with her (that doesnt mean her personality is great by all the stuff she does shes the perfect woman) and because of that he cheats his wife, that is a beautiful lie because the lie is the girl he shags and of course he doesnt tell his wife.

i hope that was clear, peece out

PS:Damn how many classes are you in ?

... to me, it's about hypocrisy. People living behind masks, that sort of thing.

"nothing is what it seems" *ominous voice* lol

lol.

a beautiful lie is something that tries to be what it's not, something that is oblivious to the things going on around it.

like someone excavating oil - oil is an expensive commodity which is used all over the world. the person excavating thinks that they are adding to the way the world goes around and that they aren't doing anything wrong. but then everyone knows that oil is harmful to the environment, creates massive arguments across the world and is potentially dangerous when being excavated. the man is simply doing the job for money.

i don't know, i'm kinda confused at what i'm saying myself...

laugh.gif

but meh.

there's my interpretation.

One letter away from 'A Beautiful Life', from the words of Jared himself. That could be something to work with. Try to think of some concept to make the video a complete oxy moron

The song, for me, is how we deceive ourselves with comforts. Hatred, religion (ESPECIALLY religion), and even self-deceit.

We tell ourselves that foreigners are our enemies, that our God will save us, and that our relationships aren't crumbling. These three things seem to be the overriding theme of the album.

To me it's about wanting something and getting it, then suddenly realizing it's not really what you wanted at all. It can be applied to anything in theory. A Beautiful Lie is all about illusions. It is something that never really was. In life humans seem to create many illusions for themselves. People lie to justify unhappy situations, people, etc to avoid saying what we really want or need.

BTW BusTrouble, where is this Acropolis you speak of with the audio clip?

I have entirely too many theories on this one, so just a few...
One would be to consider a beautiful lie any falsehood that people use to comfort themselves or to put off a truth that's too difficult to take. Or it could be that fake persona that people create because they're too afraid to let anyone see them for what they are. Could also be an impossibly wonderful future that a person has mapped out for themselves, despite the fact that it will never happen. There's something hopeful about it, too. Haven't quite gotten everything into a wordable thought pattern.

Jared's thoughts from that Red Room interview: A beautiful lie, I think, is a choice. It’s a perspective. A Beautiful Lie is an oxymoron. Everything around us is basically a lie. It’s optimistic, its about all the limitless possibilities. We drive in fossil fuel cars, watching tv, ignoring the fact that we’re killing ourselves. To me, it’s about all the promise that’s possible.

Edit: Think I might have finally got my main idea vaguely understandable. I think a beautiful lie is something to hold onto. It's a boost you need to get through that rough situation, to give you something to hope for and something to keep striving towards and a sense that it will all be okay eventually. Some people find it in a religion, others through a particular song/story/proverb/quote. Could be anything, really. It's just the tool you use to pull you through another day with the hope that the next will be better.
Really hoping that makes sense to someone else.

I have no idea if this will help, but here's what was written in that Target Red Room article ... bold parts courtesy of me:

QUOTE
Jared started penning A Beautiful Lie during the tour for the band's debut, and eventually ended up writing the album in five different countries on four different continents and recording from LA to NYC to South Africa. The title track and three other songs were composed in Cape Town, South Africa, and eventually the bandmates joined him in South Africa to work on the tracks. It was during this period that Jared came up with the title for the record.

"I was living in this house overlooking the ocean and it was breathtakingly beautiful," he explains. "But amid all of this, there was an overwhelming amount of contradiction between the beauty of nature and the destruction of man. I saw this a lot as I traveled the world from Asia to Europe and at home. It made me think about these contradictions in life, the choices we make to believe in something at the cost of something else, whether it's being in a relationship or going to war. But there's something incredibly inspiring, optimistic, and romantic about making those choices. Especially considering that no matter what, we all collectively choose to keep moving forward."

For me, "a beautiful lie" is kind of what gets us through each day. Sort of what you do and tell yourself in order to make day-to-day existence more bearable.

That is fabulous Sarah. I had similar thoughts on that. I agree with Sarah :=). Jared's explanation on what it meant to him was awesome too.

I think Shakespeare understood A Beautiful Lie ....

O, pardon me, thou bleeding piece of earth,
That I am meek and gentle with these butchers!
Thou art the ruins of the noblest man
That ever lived in the tide of times.
Woe to the hand that shed this costly blood!

I think that A Beautiful Lie is the promise of "tomorrow". That everything is better "tomorrow", that you can achieve anything "tomorrow" if you work at it etc.

When I listen to this song, I get the image of how beautiful the music industry looks when your not signed and how bad you want to get sign, but once your signed, it turns out to be this huge lie.

I'd love to take this song on a religous view! It would be an amazing video I think to have someone believe in God and heaven all his life. This person thinks it's the most beautiful thing because he/she pictures heaven, a place of beauty in the afterlife, and just believes that he will go on. The church somehow makes him believe that there is life after death but when this person dies, there is nothing, and all that was left was a beautiful lie.

Because he/she pictured this amazing place after death, it was he/shes beautiful dream, but since it ended up being nothing, it was only a beautiful lie.

I like it....

ok....

a couple...

he dies... ( i dont wanna say car accident, cuz its so repetitive, but,...hmm... car accident...)

she prays, cries.. a lot,

she is starting to imagine things... he... she is imaging that he is trying to get in touch with her.. but he isnt..

she doesnt want to believe that, cuz he is dead, although she is imaging things she wont believe...
but then a "strong situation" happens (dont know what , but ill figure it out) and she THINKS she feels his prescence...

there is a last encounter, cuz they were suposed to meet in their "magic place" where they met, she goes... he doesnt show up, cuz it was never there, that magic, never existed...

she just believe, but she failed, she was so happy about feeling him, it was beautiful at that time... at the end... it wasnt so beautiful at all...
