I've remixed the song like.. 8 times. Clint Mansell is a fine composer.

The only explaination I can offer is that maybe the song in question is an actual musical composition by some classical composer, making the song what they call "public domain", which means that anybody can use the song in any way because it belongs to the public... That probably explains why I, too, have heard the song in like 4 or 5 other films... If it was a song specifically written for "Requiem For A Dream", I sincerely doubt that so many other movies can use it... You'd need to get a license for that and/or get a hold of the song copyright and once that's been done for one movie, it's hard to have it done again for a different movie...

The music was also used in the Two Towers trailers also. Music from movie soundtracks are constantly used in trailers. The Missing had Legends of the Fall music in the trailer background. And a Legends of the Fall preview had Last of the Mohicans music.
