ok this is going to be me ranting for a little bit but i've been having random thoughts about 30STM at wokr and it's led me to a few fun conclusions about the true meaning of the band, he he he...here it comes.

We all have the general idea that the glyphics stand for 30 Seconds To Mars. That's kind of a given by now, heck, even Hiro says that. But what if the name itself has a different meaning than just sounding cool? If you listen to a lot of the lyrics in the songs, they're about fighting (ha ha Hans) and could have a lot of anti-establishment type of menaings behind many of them. and we ALL know how Jared feels about corporate america, greed, government, and all the powers that be.

SO what if 30 Seconds To Mars is really 30 seconds to War?

How did I get war? well think about it, the Roman God of War was named Mars right? And we know the boys are into the ancient culture things (glyph idea and what not) so maybe he's just referring to that? he evne calls himself a virus that just won't go away, making him and the band a leader of the new "Revolution" (also a song name) and they do lead the Mars Army (us) and what they call the Echelon which if i'm not mistkaing is a German war phrase for a wave of power or something along those lines. (don't quote me on it).

obviously my imagination is a little crazy right now, but in theory it makes sense ya know?

Possibly not 'war' in the traditional sense. More like 'war' against all the stupid things that we think we are living for. Like consumerism and how we all just 'eat' up everything that is popular. I wouldnt think they would actually want us to go out and start a physical war with guns and stuff. But you know what i mean.

I definately see your point.

However, i think I have to agree with some of the others - That "war" would be interpretated as a philosophical term, rather than the act of declaring war on someone.

For instance, a "war" could be ones own struggle to find themselves, and a "revolution" could be throwing off the shackles of life and being free - Being yourself.

Thats the way I see it,

I definately see your point though, but i dont think it was formost on the bands minds.

I think it was meant to be more philosophical.

i connect to the music because of how i am not because of how the world is. it is my struggle with myself most of the time that gets me into music not my struggle against the world, though i do have one. we all do.

but my war with my self is my greatest!

that's the war i was going for. i know the boys owuldnt want us all to pick up our sickles and go out and kill people, lol. but i just found it kind of odd the references i found. i mena if i tihnk evne more into it i'm sure more iwll pop up, but that's always how it is when you're in that frame of mind. i agree though..the inner war with us all is probably the hardest battle we'll ever endeavor.

That is some deep thinking....wish i could do that. I agree with the war perspective...more of a silent war against all that is ...kind thing...and no definitely NOT killing...that's bad..

But we must remember, no man is an island. Everything that effects one person, effects everyone else in some sense.

I think you guys are on the right track. 30 seconds to war. War within yourself, is a war against the world too. And war not as in physical conflict, but conflict, that we don't agree.

But I think it's awesome this thread was started. Looking for the deeper meaning of things is always a good thing. You never know what you may find behind pretty blue eyes :-D

These kinds of threads are always interesting...looking within the words of music to find a deeper meaning, an interpretation of the songs. The great thing about music is that everyone has a different idea about what it means, so it's great when people can come together and discuss it.

I think there should be an 'Opinions' section in these message boards (akin to toolshed.down.net's Opinions section) where people can debate the meanings of the iconography, the songs, the album in its entirety, et cetera. With this, perhaps people see different points of view and inspire thought in others regarding these subjects so that new ideas can continue to form. Who's with me?

This war has been fought for thousands of years. When the oppressor's hands are too tight, and the revolt becomes a revolution. This war is not a war at all, but the theoretical process by which people attempt to overthrow the machine. A music which is part of a melting-pot of anti-governmental regime. The music can fuel the fire, but once the fire is in a storm, the music becomes just another hollow form of counter-culture. And people grasp onto it, and it no longer has purpose... Only to fuel the shells of a lost cause.

Now your thinking bleedingme.. I agree with you and all you others that a physical war is not the answer here, but a war within the boundaries of your mind!

To listen and really hear, and not let the constant battle be fought for you! Rather jump in and get your hands dirty, if the war is worth fighting for!

I think everyone battles wars every day of their lives, on emotional levels etc... Anything that challenges us to act is better than remaining dormant!

Still a little tired here, sorry if that didn't make a heck of alot of sense!

As far as I know this word is derived from latin, not german. In the military (in several countries) it's used about a formation of soldiers or vehicles (tanks, APCs etc.).

It's off course also the name given (by the media) to a US spy network.
