Since coming here in February, I've bookmarked a lot of videos from all that have posted
on here and on youtube, myspace, etc. (Thank you!) I have made mp3s of a lot of these performances and
I was wondering if it's okay to post them here, since the performances have been out there
for a while? I didn't know if the guys would be upset by that. So I guess, I'm posting and if
they don't want them here, someone'll remove them, right?

what exactly do you guys want to see in this yearbook?

Just some ideas, that might be worthy to be included in some way:

* obviously echelon/fan photos in 'yearbook form' as per vol. I
* show/concert/tour photos
* possibly international spotlight / flags from all the countries
* fanart
* Mars touring around the globe (maybe a sort of review about the tour adventures)
* The Moviemakers - some stuff about the videos 1-4 (footage and info)
* Award stuff (and maybe fan involvement: VMAs, Fuse, EMs, Russian Award etc.)
* Funny statistics like: 6 277 000 people have seen our shows, Shannon has drunken 4897 liter coffee, Jared's stage climbing adventures have reached the hight of the mount Everest, 8,467 guitar pic have been thrown out from stage, enough ABL records have been sold to rebuild a house of HfH...
* "Duty free gifts" received while traveling with MARStours (could just be a pic of some of the stuff received by the band from fans all piled up)
* Mars adventures online (maybe the streetteam myspace stuff, fansites and 30stm pages for various countries)

and for those of you who have the original yearbook, what from volume would you like to see carried over for the second volume?

When adding Pictures:
Print resulution is 300 dpi... if you converted it to that resolution it should be at least 5 cm big to see anyting in it.
If you have a picture which is 850 x1200 is ist about 3 inch x 4 inch... that 7,5 x 10 cm... that should be ok

It works like that: you have a picture with for example 850x1200 dots.
Print resolution is 300 dots per inch. If you now divide 850 through 300 you get 2,83.
2,83 is than the actual size of the shorter side of the pic in inch.
You do the same with 1200. Then you have the actual printig size of that picture.
For the Europeans: 1 inch is about 2,54 cm

New: Important Updated Information about the Venue:

11th September.....I have spoken to the Manager about our queries:

1) You will not be allowed to take ANY cameras into the venue....unless you hide them and sneak them in.
If security find them, they will be confiscated until after the show.

The wording on their website reads: No professional "type" audio/visual or any digital recording equipment will be allowed into the venue.

2) Bags CAN be taken into the venue after they have been checked by security, as long as they are not huge. You will not have to put them into the cloakroom unless you want to.

3) If you make the outside security aware that you are leaving the line and you intend to return to your place, you WILL be able to do so, even after 5pm.
I hope they honour this.

The Manager already knew that people will be queueing from very early when I spoke to him.

Information about the Venue and the Local Area from Chris (guylikeu):

Firstly: Brixton is not dangerous. Anyone worried about gangs or shootings or anything like that seriously needs to calm down. At no point yesterday did I ever feel unsafe. Brixton is just like any other area of any city you care to choose. Where the academy is, it's on a main street, well-lit with many busy shops surrounding. It�s is not secluded at all, you will not be mugged or attacked.
Of course, like anytime in life, if you decide to go wandering off on your own and you take a back alleyway or dark area then you take a risk there. But that is nothing specific to Brixton, that's just called life in the twenty-first century. So don't be coming to the show thinking you're coming to a run-down dangerous corner of the world, it�s not like that at all. Truth be told, I found Milan to be much more likely to cause trouble, and no-one was bothered about that show, so please just end with this silly talk.

- The academy itself is a great venue! It's very big, without question this will be 30's biggest headline show since � ? I don�t even know, maybe someone who knows the capacity of some of the American venues can tell me. I took LOADS of pictures internal and external, I will post them here for you guys to see.

- It's also very easy to find from the tube. You just come out of the main exit from Brixton station, and follow the signs to the academy. You go to the right, walk for about 3 minutes and then you can't miss it on your left.

- You cannot leave the queue after 5pm. The way the queue is formed, it wraps around the building. So if you go away from the queue after a certain point, security will not let you re-join, and they can just easily send you to the back. This is what happened yesterday. This affects people who want to street team and who are planning to be at the front. Which leads me on to my next point�.

- You don't have to get there super early to be at to the front. I got there yesterday about half 4, and ended up with only 2 young girls in front of me, so I had a perfect view of the stage.

- If you are short, don't even try to go near the front. I had lots of girls behind me who were between 5 and 5 � foot. I'm almost certain they didn�t get to see Pink once.

- There are barriers throughout the whole of the standing area, so you can come in and go straight to of those to stand next to. I think this is to prevent a crush at the front.

- The whole floor is tilted downwards, so that you're walking downhill to get to the front. Don't stress about missing out on front row if you don't get it. When I was leaving, I took pictures from all around the floor area, and everywhere had a great view. No matter where you are stood, you will see the band.

- The nearest toilets are in the Nando's restaurant opposite, but you have to pay �1 or buy something there to use them. The only public toilets I could find were in the underground train station, about 3-4 minutes walk away.

- There are plenty of shops around, so you can buy food and things. There is a newsagent around the corner that sells fruit, veg and all sorts of snacks like crisps and things. There are lots of places to buy hot food, including the aforementioned Nando's

THE 30 SECONDS TO MARS TRADING POST

So I thought to myself the other day...

'Self, this is a very strange fanbase we have here. We have people all over the world who go out of their way to send each other things even though they've never met. When magazines or CD's are released in different parts of the world, we have people who will take 'orders' so to speak, and send things to everyone. This is bizarre.'

And I figured, since people are so lovely and seem to be so willing to help others out...maybe we should set up a thread where people can post things that they have (extras and whatnot), or things that they're looking for so that others can help them out.

Of course I know that undoubtedly much of it will be contained in the particular thread itself (be it a magazine or whatnot), but at least this way it's a central place for people to come looking for things.

Yes, there's always ebay. God knows I've used it enough. But it seems silly that with so many people here from so many different places that we don't have somewhere central to post 'hey, does anyone have an extra one of such-and-such?' or 'can anyone from XXX country grab me one of these?'

I have no idea if this will work or if it's a terrible idea, but I figure it's worth a shot. Post things you have extras of if you so desire, things that you're looking for or hope someone can pick up for you, and things that you want to trade. (Please no ticket requests here)

I don't want this to become a bidding war or anything like that, so please don't use it as somewhere to sell your extra shit for profit. If you just want to sell something and make some extra money, use eBay. If you're at least open to the possibility of trading it for something, or want to volunteer to send things to people at cost, post it here. Or, for example, if you bought a shirt and it doesn't fit and you'll sell it at cost or whatever. That's fine too.

So I guess I'll go first...

EDIT- It's been spoken for.

I bought another copy of the S/T the other day in hopes of getting the 'regular' version that isn't the misprint with the grey circles through the phoenix. Considering from what I've heard the grey circles ones are somewhat hard to come by since they're old (for some reason my original CD had them) I thought 'hey, this one won't possibly have the grey circles through it.' So I get it home, unwrap it, and...TA-DA! Grey circles. Honestly, what are the odds.

Although I do have stupid amounts of their CD's, I really don't need two that are exactly the same. And I could probably sell it on eBay but I'd rather just trade it for something I don't have already.

Anyone?

Helpful tips for shipping things...

If you're the one shipping stuff, you might want to take into account paypal fees. No need to lose money to help people out.

Check the following when trying to figure out shipping costs, especially when looking to give people cheap shipping:

-weight (honestly, sometimes shipping in a lighter envelope can make a difference)
-dimensions of the package (sometimes a little package will have to fit through a slot to go as a small packet vs a parcel, or a poster tube has to be xxx inches long for it to go cheaper when shipping internationally vs domestic)
-the way you ship it (this sounds obvious, but unless you check first, you can get screwed- surface vs air, etc etc)
-insurance (especially when shipping internationally)

Also:

-Put tape on the seals to avoid them being able to open the package (or stickers)
-I usually just put the stuff I'm sending (and think will get squashed) in between two cardboard sheets that are too big for the item, or cut out cardboard ends so that the material doesn't get squashed directly.

For those who wanted a vinyl list (and some tidbits/info for help- I think they are pretty much in order as well):

ABL- Full album, full size vinyl, printed in 2006 in the US, limited quantities but show up on ebay sometimes. Regular skull seal on both sides. Comes in clear plastic sleeve.

Attack- 7" single released in UK, first single released and so far, the hardest one to get for newer fans. Phoenix on one side, regular skulls on the other. Comes in clear plastic, numbered sleeve. Flipside: The Fantasy

The Kill- 7" single released in UK, pop up on ebay now and again. White with X on one side, black with skulls on the other side. Comes in clear plastic, numbered sleeve. Flipside: Attack (live @ CBGB's)

From Yesterday- 7" single released in the US from Hot Topic only (part of the fanpack). Black slipcover with warrior on the front, the vinyl is white with asian symbols on the middle parts. Quite hard to find now, but show up sometimes on ebay. Flipside: The Kill, Acoustic Live on VH-1.

From Yesterday- 7" single released in the UK. Black with warrior on one side, red glyphs on black on the other side. Comes in clear plastic, numbered sleeve. I think these still show up a bit on ebay? Flipside: A Beautiful Lie (acoustic).

The Kill (Rebirth)- 7" single released in the UK. Red disc with skull in the middle bits. Slipcover is red with the pictures of the band on the front (same as the 2nd cover of ABL). Still pretty easy to find. Comes with 2 stickers. Flipside: The Story

From Yesterday- 7" single released in the UK. Clear disc with black middle (with asian writing). Comes in black slipcover with the warrior on the front. Was also part of the bundle with the vinyl below and the CD. Easy to find on ebay still. Flipside: The Kill (radio 1 live version).

From Yesterday - 7" single released in the UK. Red vinyl, with picture of warrior on black centre. Signatures are 'etched' into the back. Was part of the bundle above. Still easy to find on ebay. Flipside: None.

Silver (FY) Mask: Search casanova long nose mask, and Venitian long nose mask, some may call it plague mask. They have the most beautiful ones decorated, from Venice.
The other 'Welcome to the Universe' masks are called Pierrot masks. You can search costume stores for these as well, or ebay. It's cheaper than searching under '30STM'

DIY FUN!!!!!!! (thanks to all those who helped with tips!)

T-shirts:

Use regular acrylic paint on fabric, let dry and then iron from the back to set the paint. Put down a clean piece of white fabric between the design and what you are pressing against [ironing board etc] because SOME paint might shed when you iron it. Inside out and gentle wash/air dry is best.

You can also use spray paint especially for cloth.For creating designs, cut out for instance,the phoenix like some sort of a stencil.
Just print the design on paper and use this to draw onto the foil ( self-adhesive transparent foil ). It works like tracing paper.
The foil has a protective film on the sticky side which you can remove afterwards.
And then spraye the outside with color

When filling images in, the paint might crack, but if it's just small little lines, there is the (slight, depending on what you wear it for)
chance of it wearing off. So just be careful with that.

Also, for those of you doing acrylics- while charcoal/chalk pencils are your BEST FRIENDS

If you're using chalk pencils to draw it, and then want to wash the lines off after you're done painting? Make sure you wait a good while before putting the shirt in the water. You may think it's dry, but it probably isn't. I generally wait a couple days. Usually you can just brush it off, but sometimes you do need to wash off the lines depending on how much chalk there is, haha. Once I thought it was dry, put it in the water, and it started to get puffy and wet. Not good. But once it's dry, it's fine to wash.

STENCILS
Want to make a sturdy reusable stencil? Don't have access to the overhead plastic that goes through printers and copiers?
- CLEAR PLASTIC SHEET PROTECTORS FOR PAPERS Cut them so you have two sheets of plastic. Pretty sturdy... I used them a lot. However, they are only good for a stencil up to 8 1/2 x 11 [or whatever the standard paper size is in your country] so I was limited as to how big my stencils could be.
- CLEAR CONTACT PAPER IN BIG ROLLS This stuff is awesome. It is available in big rolls and all you do is cut two pieces of equal size, peel the paper backing off to reveal the sticky side, and then press sticky side to sticky side [carefully, to avoid bubbles] and you get a mondo piece of sturdy clear plastic! Big enough to trace out the mithra on the back of the original version white echelon hoodie... I love this so much that I no longer use the Sheet Protectors, even for little jobs. I am all about the Clear Contact Paper. It's very sturdy!

So lay your clear plastic of choice on the design you want, trace with a permanent marker and there is your pattern. Then grab your utility knife or better yet, a sharp exacto/X-acto knive. Now use a steady hand to cut out the areas that you will want to paint. *** note. If doing this for the first time, don't forget that some pieces need "support sections" or they will flop around or dissapear all together. Example... an O. If you cut out the O without support sections, the middle of the O is gone and now you have a solid oval. Not so nice. So leave small strips connecting the inside of the O to corrispond with the outside of the O, in order to keep the inside in place... do these at 12, 3, 6 and 9 on a clock. Did that make sense? Do we need a picture? I can provide.

After cutting out the frigging thing, palms sweating, fingers aching, the beautiful thing is that this stencil can now be centered accurately [since it's clear] and can be used again and again [since it is made of sturdy plastic]

Store plastic stencils flat... they can curl up if smooshed. Happily, they can be flattened again with something heavy on top of them and a day or two to recover.

Making stuff with Fimo/Sculpey
It won't be completely hard when you take them out of the oven. I don't know how to describe the texture, but they're just...rubbery. Like if you pushed your nail into it a bit, it wouldn't mark, but it's still not HARD. If you wait until they are hard, then they'll be burnt.

Take them out and let them cool, and they'll harden up.

Also, don't make the stuff too thin, or it will just break. You can also engrave it with a pin/needle beforehand and fill in with paint afterwards (if you have a really steady hand).

"Bake" first, then paint, since most paints don't take the heat too well. Acrylic paint will work fine afterwards.

There is special fimo varnish available in crafting stores, but I think other crafting varnish should be ok as well. Again, use after "baking" and cooling down. There might even be a glossy and a matted version, that only helps to keep rhinestones in place and fixates paint, but I could be mistaken about that.

Also, to help fimo keep its shape in the oven, you can stabilize it with something, that can take the heat, like a metal tube. Knitting needles are often recommended when making beads.

To our Friends and Fans,

Despite rumors to the contrary, 30 Seconds to Mars is NOT calling it quits. We are incredibly happy, healthy and very much together here, in Los Angeles, recording our new record. Besides this ridiculously overblown lawsuit (courtesy of Virgin/EMI), we are having one of the most inspiring, wonderful and exciting times that we've experienced to date. (More on that later...)

Beyond this distraction, we are so incredibly grateful to all of you around the world that have supported us so passionately. We would never consider stopping this just yet. These past few phenomenal years have been beyond imaginable and we owe every single bit of it to you. Thank you all for that!

So, as you may have heard we are being sued by our former record company for the ridiculously oversized, totally unrealistic and pretty silly (but slightly clever) sum of $30,000,000. Insane? Yea that's what we said too.

A little history...

We had been signed to our record contract for 9 years. Basically, under California law, where we live and signed our deal, one cannot be bound to a contract for more than 7 years. This is widely known by all the record companies and has been for years. In fact, so aware of it are they that they desperately try to make deals outside of California whenever possible. It is a law that protects people from lengthy, unfair, career-spanning contracts. This law also gave us the legal right to explore other possible opportunities.

Yes we have been sued by EMI. But NOT for failing to deliver music or for 'quitting'. We have been sued by the corporation quite simply because roughly 45 days ago we exercised our legal right to terminate our old, out of date contract, which, according to the law is null and void.

We terminated for a number of reasons, which we won't go into here (we'd rather not air any dirty laundry) but basically our representatives could not get EMI to agree to make a fair and reasonable deal.

A few things to note...

If you think the fact that we have sold in excess of 2 million records and have never been paid a penny is pretty unbelievable, well, so do we. And the fact that EMI informed us that not only aren't they going to pay us AT ALL but that we are still 1.4 million dollars in debt to them is even crazier. That the next record we make will be used to pay off that old supposed debt just makes you start wondering what is going on. Shouldn't a record company be able to turn a profit from selling that many records? Or, at the very least, break even? We think so.

That, and other issues, like the new regime at EMI firing most of the people we know and love, wanting to place advertisements on our website, EMI owning 100 percent of the masters of our record...forever, and basically having a revolving door of regimes at the company made it easy to not want to continue as is.

As the result of this takeover - and the firing of over 2000 employees - we have lost many of the people that were near and dear to us at Virgin/EMI and crucial to the success of 30 Seconds to Mars. A few of the great ones are still there, but it is hardly the same company we have known. After more than 5 regime changes in 9 years you'd think we would be used to the inconsistency, but the team that took the journey together for A Beautiful Lie was a very very special group of people and it's a huge loss that so many of them are gone. (Quick fact: There is not a single employee at Virgin records who was working at the company when we signed.)

FYI Virgin/EMI was not required to make this lawsuit public or to list such an egregiously and stupendously large amount of mullah. In fact, they were not required to set any price even close to this. We did not want to take this public, but we felt it best to explain our point of view to you, our
friends and fans, in hope that you can better understand our point of view.

We would always do our best to avoid a fight, but sometimes it's important to stand up for what you believe in. We hope that by doing what's right we can help to change things for the better, for ourselves and possibly others.

P.S. We will always remain grateful to the people at Virgin/EMI who were so integral to our success. And we hope that, above all, we can find a resolution to this in as civil and kind a way as possible.

There are certainly more important things out there in the world to spend time and energy on.

Yes its back to 2 days and 2 cities and London and Sheffield are the confirmed cities, check the myspace blog for why we are not playing your town!

OK the tickets will be on sale 9am Friday 18th January from all outlets and for the best deals check venue direct and have a route about init and see who has the cheapest booking fees. we'll stick links on the ticketing page from 9am Friday and NOT BEFORE....

The line up is not 100% confirmed yet for ALL acts, those advertised are 100% locked and good to go, most of the bands are flying in just for the event they will not be doing tours around the festival. GIVE IT A NAME Introduces will return post GIVE IT A NAME but no bands have been confirmed yet as I haven't confirmed who we want, same deal �4 for 4 acts and this is only possible because of the festival kids.

Competitions: There will be several competitions with our different partners including a WORLDWIDE fly away comp which will be run via reccenter.com, win the chance to work at GIAN in London, and the design a poster for charity to be sold at the event. More info on these as we get closer to the event.

General Travel Information

The Sheffield Arena is one of the country's largest indoor entertainment venues, with a capacity of over 12,000. Therefore on the day of the event heavy and slow moving traffic can be expected on all approaches.

Nearly 1,300 on-site car parking spaces are available with an additional over-flow facility for 700 cars. Car parking is payable upon entrance and the following charges apply: �10 coaches, �6 Mini buses, �5 Cars, �3 Ice Hockey. Only limited on-street parking is available around the Arena.

Disabled Car Parking Facilities are available at the Arena priced at �5.00 per car or �3.00 for ice hockey events. If you wish to utilise these facilities please display your Disabled badge/permit on the dashboard of your car. Please be aware that we will make every effort to find you the most suitable parking location that we can when you arrive, but spaces can't be reserved in advance.

Park and Ride facilities are available from the train station at Meadowhall Shopping Centre and off the Sheffield Parkway (A630). For further information on tram and bus services to the Arena contact the Traveline on (01709) 51 51 51.

Leave the M1 at Junction 34, signed Sheffield A6109 (Meadowhall). Take the fourth exit from the roundabout signed Sheffield Centre. Follow signs for Sheffield Centre (A6109) for 1.5 miles and then turn left following signs to the Ring Road A6102. Sheffield Arena is located on the right.

From The South

Leave the M1 at Junction 33. Take the first exit at the roundabout on to the A630 (Sheffield). Continue for 2.5 miles until the exit marked Ring Road (services). Follow signs for the ring Road straight over a small roundabout. Turn right at the next roundabout onto the Ring Road/Meadowhall (A6178). Follow this road for 2 miles to Sheffield Arena, which is located on the left.
